Da Vinci Digestive System
We have only recently begun to understand the extent of the role of gut flora in human health and disease.
Among other things, the gut flora promotes normal gastrointestinal function, protects against infections, regulates metabolism and contributes to more than 75% of our immune system.
The dysregulated intestinal flora has been associated with diseases ranging from autism and depression to autoimmune diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, and the Hashimoto type 1 diabetes.

Unfortunately, many features of modern life directly contribute to unhealthy gut flora:
Antibiotics and other medications, such as contraceptives and NSAIDs. (NSAIDs)
Diets high in refined carbohydrates, sugar and processed foods.
Diets low in foods that have been fermented. Kefir, yogurt, pickles.
Chronic Stress
Chronic infections
Antibiotics are particularly harmful to the gut flora.

Recent studies have shown that the use of antibiotics causes a rapid and profound loss of diversity and a change in the composition of the intestinal flora.
Hence fungal infections after taking antibiotics.
This diversity is not recovered following antibiotic use without intervention.
This is why other countries antibiotics are always taken with probiotics.

We also know that infants not breastfed and were born to mothers with poor intestinal flora are more likely to develop unhealthy gut bacteria, and that these differences of intestinal flora, we can predict whether someone will be overweight or to be acquired diabetes, eczema / psoriasis, and even depression, such as other health problems in the future.
The barrier of the gut: the gatekeeper who decides what goes and what stays out.
Have you ever considered the fact that the contents of the colon is technically outside the body?

The intestine is a hollow tube which passes through the mouth to the anus.
Anything that goes into the mouth and will not digested immediately come out from the other end.
This is in fact one of the most important functions of the gut: to prevent foreign substances from entering the body.
When the intestinal barrier is permeable (i.e., have "leaky gut syndrome"), large molecules in undigested protein substance escape into the bloodstream.

Since these proteins are not used anywhere, and not outside of the intestine, the body reacts with an immune response and attacking these foreign molecules.
